Travels Up the Nile — Page 7

It was a good trip–climbing in, over, and through Egypt’s antiquities. Best of all was coming back each day to the comfort of the Four Seasons hotel in Cairo, or with sore feet planted on the top deck of the SS Sphinx.

We were very fortunate to be guided by a great Egyptologist who commanded a wealth of knowledge of Egyptian history and had the personality and speaking ability to capture and delight his audience. Akram made the trip, and became a friend to all of us on the tour.

Our Egypt experience is difficult distill down to a few words. Egypt is diverse as ancient Egyptian monuments and Muslim mosques, with modern Cairo a crowded city of rich and poor. But Egypt is also timeless. Often we were transfixed by a scene of daily street life that could have been lifted right from the ancient Egypt whose monuments and ruins we were privileged to visit.
